10. Trelissick Park

January 10

We drove up the Ngaio Gorge and parked at the second carpark. There is a quite steep descent into the park and then there is a path that runs along side the stream. It follows the stream for ages only climbing away into the bush a few times. Some lovely spots to sit and have a paddle in the water.

At the far end you come out near the train station in Crofton Downs. We actually carried on to Otari from here thinking that we were going to do the Sanctuary to Sea walk, but we didn't look at a map, and missed part of the walk. So ... counting it as two separate walks and will do the full walk another day.

We walked back along the track and carried on to the first carpark. There is an old magazine store (explosives) building down that end - the oldest stone building in Wellington.

This walk was a really nice surprise for us. We had taken the Johnsonville train to work for about three years and had never looked down and spotted this track. When I heard people talking about it I had imagined a steep, winding bush track and hadn't felt any inclination to walk it.

About 7 000 steps
