9. Titahi Bay - Southern Clifftop Walk

January 9

First evening walk. Still very hot though. I started at the north end of the beach. The walkway isn't signposted from the beach but as you pass the beach houses at the southern end of the beach, you take a path to the left up the hill.

This is quite a steep part of the track. Once you get to the top you get amazing views down to the beach and out to Kapiti, Mana Island and top of South Island. At the end of the pathway you meet a service road. You can turn to the right and go down to a water treatment area which has a nice stony beach or you can head up to the left, around Stuart Park. Quite a steady uphill climb.

Almost at the top of the service road you can choose to cross through the park and then connect back with the pathway, continue up the service road or take the middle path which continues to skirt the park. I chose the middle path. At the top you take a bit of a walk through the streets and then head back down via a zigzag path and through Arnold Park back to the beach.

About 8 000 steps
